Pamlico Sound Diver Shooting 12-27-11

The diver action is heating up on North Carolina’s Pamlico Sound!  We’ve had some great shoots lately.  Layout hunting has been spectacular.  We’ve had great success with bluebills (both lesser scaup and greater scaup).  I had a treat yesterday and didn’t have a charter.  That means, for once, I get in on the action from the layout boat!

Check out this video. The birds attack the decoys from left to right.  I only crack at them once because I only had 1 more bird to fill my limit.

In this next video, you’ll see the birds pass the decoy spread to the left.  Then they circle back and come right to the layout boat.  The birds are about 15 yards when I shoot.  (I know…I whiffed that first shot!  I get excited when they’re in my face that close too.  I made  shots #2 and #3 count though.)

If you have any questions about how to best target these birds, feel free to contact me anytime.  You can CLICK HERE to contact me. I’ll respond as soon as I get a chance.

More Pamlico Sound Sea Ducks 12-7-11

The sea ducks are still here in strong numbers.  I’ve been primarily focusing on layout boat hunts, and the results have been good!

Pamlico Sound NC Surf Scoter

Surf Scoters are the bird of choice.  We’ve had some great shots…several doubles on drake surf scoters.  Watching those bad boys commit to the decoy spread, lock their wings, and cruise into range is always amazing!

North Carolina Duck Guide East Carolina Charters

The bluebill shooting has been good on morning hunts.  I’m a big fan of moving if the initial plan isn’t panning out.  Duck movements change from day to day.  Where they were yesterday may not be where they are today.  I always have multiple spots chosen, and Plan “B” is just as good as Plan “A.”  Here’s a picture from the layout boat.  Here I saw a good number of birds and maneuvered a “quick drop.”  We went from riding to hunting in about 10 minutes.
